IPU
ISAL Production Upgrade (IPU) is the working title of ISAL’s development project. The project is twofold. One part involves creating a sustainable future for ISAL by increasing the company’s production by 20% or 41,000 tons of aluminium per year, as well as a reliability upgrade of the existing power infrastructure.
The reliability upgrade includes a substation upgrade, installation of busbar cross-overs between potlines and new rectifiers.
The second part of the project is the Casthouse conversion whereas the production is being converted to billet production, replacing the sheet.The Casthouse part of the project involves the transformation of the ISAL Casthouse from sheet into billets through the conversion of two casting pits in two steps: in 2012 and 2014. The project will secure the overall metal production of the plant and will maximise the production of sheet during the conversion.
